FFXIV (Final Fantasy XIV) got a mixed reception from the gamers and seemed not as good as expected in its OBT conducted at the beginning of September. What's the problem? From my perspective, except the Japanese gamers, most of those holding a positive attitude toward FFXIV are FFXI gamers and sandbox MMO fans. As a long-awaited project made by SquareEnix, what advantages and disadvantages that deserve gamers' attention does FFXIV have? Now, please follow me to check out the advantages and disadvantages appearing in the game's OBT!
First, let's get down to the game's advantages, otherwise many people may get unhappy and unwilling to read on if being told the disadvantages first!
Similar to the previous titles, FFXIV features gorgeous graphics and beautiful background music, which is really thought highly of. But such excellent light and sound effects are a challenge for gamers' computers anyway (Eh? Am I talking about the advantages? XD). Of course, if you are a PS3 user, whether or not the machine can run the game smoothly can just be ignored.
Meanwhile, FFXIV's storyline gives gamers a stand-alone feel, which is also what the upcoming MMORPGs like SWTOR (Star Wars: The Old Republic) and GW2 (Guild Wars 2) are heading for. In this respect, FFXIV can be regarded as a leader. XD... However, the game seems to force gamers to play according to its storyline, which can be deemed as a fly in the ointment since MMOs are usually supposed to offer gamers more choices.
In terms of the in-game crafting system, I really have to say that it's the essence of FFXIV. Don't you think that few games design a special site for a particular system like "Crafting"? After spending some time on FFXIV's crafting system, I unconsciously thought of another game - Ultima Online ("UO" for short. It's said that UO has recently released another new expansion. God! The game is approaching its 13th year.) The two are really alike. With detailed settings, the crafting system is very suitable for those fond of crafting skills. From material collection to formula researches and the final crafting, gamers may have to take notes frequently so as to better enjoy themselves. Much exploration fun can be expected in this part.
The combats in FFXIV seem to go more smoothly than those in FFXI, but not as smoothly as those in other games. In the age when action RPGs are being paid more and more attention to, the combats in FFXIV still feel much like the turn-based ones in the stand-alone FF titles. Such setting can undoubtedly give gamers more time to think, but makes FFXIV seem less competitive than the recent next-gen MMOs.
Now come the disadvantages, which may be not disadvantages in some people's opinion. From my point of view, the points mentioned below are what SquareEnix has to improve, and it's obvious that the game supervision didn't keep pace with the times very much.
First, let's talk about the gaming control. I have to say that there're too many menus. But if you play FFXIV with a gamepad, the game will be no much different from the stand-alone FF titles, and you'll only have to use the keyboard when typing (but the voice chat is now preferred in most cases). However, the point is that those who play MMOs on PC use the keyboard and mouse mostly. FFXIV's UI is obviously a gamepad-oriented product. You may directly suggest buying a gamepad, but why? The developer should have given PC users a more user-friendly control system. It's really unreasonable for PC users to buy gamepads for the sake of more exciting gaming experiences.
FFXIV also makes newbies very uncomfortable. After creating a character and choosing the target city, newbies will enter the gaming world formally, and after an opening animation and a short fighting story, they'll be thrown into the gaming world directly. "What should I do?" This will be the first question of many newbies. They roam around, and find themselves in a town which seems wide but actually has invisible walls here and there. Finally, some sign on the screen makes them realize that they're in an instance. At this point, those who are relatively experienced may try to find an NPC for some info. If lucky enough, they may find the right NPC at their first attempt, and then have a boring talk with the NPC. After that, they'll be directed to newbies' adventurous room, with the same trouble following - "What should I do?". I believe that more than half of the newcomers will choose to quit the game at this time.
I'm sure that many FFXI gamers will say: "This is the case with FFXI!", "Take it easy! It's just the case with EQ!" or "So it is with UO!". Someone may even criticize: "You are all spoilt by WoW!"
But all the games in the above examples are very old, and the game designers at that time must not think as fully as the current ones. If they are asked to design a new MMORPG today and are capable enough, don't you think that they'll add some guiding words for newbies? With a friendly newbie, gamers can understand the gaming mode and core better and faster without having to do much additional work, and become interested in the game at the very beginning. It's true that a good game should have many interesting things for gamers to explore as gamers progress, but if newbies can be guided thoughtfully at the very beginning, it's more likely that the game will detain more gamers. After all, the MMO with more gamers is more interesting!
The last may be gamers' misunderstanding, but is still a problem. UI Lag that tons of gamers complain about is actually Server Lag. Do the same thing in a place with many gamers and another with few, then you'll feel great difference. This is also what SquareEnix will have to solve after FFXIV's official release on September 22.
Time to sum up! I strongly recommend FFXIV to those fond of living another life in the gaming world. In FFXIV, you are able to enjoy many interesting crafting skills and even work as vendors. Except that you cannot build buildings in FFXIV as you do in UO, you can fully enjoy the life fun in another world. But if you like smooth combats and don't like thinking much, FFXIV may not fit you. And if you like pressing "Space" to jump once in a while when running, FFXIV may also not fit you, since the jumping feature is unavailable in FFXIV.

IGE is in my opinion just oustanding.
My experience has been pretty good overall with this site. I've bought from a couple of others, and in the end they give you a big run around. If your order isn't ready on time, just get on their livechat and talk with a rep.

UgameGold says guarenteed gold within 24 hours. I bought 500m ISK for Eve Online earlier tonight. Right after I ordered, I hit the "live help" button to see how long it might be.Then I recieved an email saying they were out of stock in my realm(which there aren't alot of people on anyway). Five days later I still get nothing and they started getting very rude as well. I will strongly suggest not going through them unless you want to wait at least a week for your gold.
